Bella and The Bulldogs
Middle-school student Bella Dawson doesn’t buy into the traditional roles of boys playing football and girls being cheerleaders. The head cheerleader dreams of playing football. She achieves that goal when she gets a chance to try out for her school’s pigskin squad.
She excels, not only making the team but becoming the star quarterback. She takes the job from Troy, who is bitter about losing the position.
Her teammates do what they can to try to get her to give up, but she perseveres. While the star athlete shows her toughness on the field, Bella doesn’t want to lose her two best friends from the cheer squad, overly enthusiastic Pepper and no-nonsense Sophie, who advises Bella on everything about boys.
Curtis Plummer (Ice Cube), a down-on-his-luck former football player, becomes the new coach of the Minden, Illinois, Pop Warner football team. With his niece Jasmine (Keke Palmer) installed as the team’s quarterback and secret weapon, Curtis has a chance to turn his life around, while the residents of Minden have a chance to recapture their team spirit and civic pride.
A Canadian teenager, Tami (Helen Hunt), who has just moved to Oregon, causes a stir when she decides to stand up against her coach and the naysayers of her small town and try out for her high school football team. To try and prove that she’s capable of being a talented football quarterback despite her gender.
Molly McGrath (Goldie Hawn) is following her dreams when she quits her cushy girl’s track coaching position at Prescott High to become the boy’s football coach at inner-city Central High.
Even though she’s faced with both racial and gender prejudices, she whips the team into shape, so they can compete against Prescott High in the final.
All the while, Molly is also dealing with her ex-husband, Frank Needham (James Keach), who is trying to get custody of their two young daughters.
