All the Best Hockey Movies Every Fan Must See

These hockey movies include films that are based on true stories, docuseries, and comedic films. These titles celebrate fans' love of hockey, the collectors' memorabilia of hockey, and passion for and violence in the game. And features pee wee, high school, college, and professional levels of the game.

Ice hockey is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. It was first played in 1875 (nearly 150 years ago) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It's been an Olympic sport for Men, in the 1920 Summer Olympics and 1924 Winter Olympics. For Women, since the 1998 Winter Olympics.
In Men's hockey, full contact is allowed and in Women's, limited contact is allowed (body checking disallowed). The venue is a hockey rink or arena, but it is sometimes played on a frozen lake or pond for recreation.

In the regular season, which generally runs from early October through early April, teams play 82 games which determine their standings.

In the small New England town of Charlestown, the local mill is about to lay off 10,000 workers. The town's minor league hockey team, the Charlestown Chiefs, is doing no better. After years of failure, this will be the team's last season. Exasperated player and coach Reggie Dunlop (Paul Newman) lets the club's recent acquisitions, the Hanson Brothers, play. The brothers' actively violent and thuggish style of play excites the fans. Dunlop retools the team, using violence to draw big crowds.

Hockeyland

Minnesota is the heartland of US hockey, creating more skaters-on the local rinks and in the NHL-than any other state. Here, the senior boys of rival towns-one an emerging dynasty, the other with a fabled past-face down uncertain futures as they skate for a last chance to etch their names into local lore. Where Texas football has Friday Night Lights, Minnesota hockey has Hockeyland.

The Collectors Original Six

Visit some amazing man caves in this documentary about folks that love to collect the history of the game of hockey. From hockey cards to game-used memorabilia, The Collectors keep their love of hockey front and center in their lives.

Mystery, Alaska

A comical tale about the residents of a small, remote Alaskan town and their preoccupation with ice hockey. Excitement comes to the town when, as part of a publicity stunt, the professional stars of the New York Rangers come to Alaska to face off against the local amateur team in a televised match.

Small-town intrigues and petty rivalries must be shelved if the locals are to put up a respectable defense.

Miracle

While everyone’s favorite hockey movie may be Slap Shot, sadly, that’s not a true story. What is 100 percent accurate and an excellent portrayal of America’s ability to overcome adversity is Miracle. It’s difficult to find the words to describe how monumental it was when a team full of college kids defeated the Soviet Union in hockey.
