Dragon Ball

Dragon Ball was initially inspired by the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West, as well as Hong Kong martial arts films. The series follows the adventures of the protagonist, Son Goku, from his childhood through adulthood as he trains in martial arts.

Dragon Ball Z

It is the sequel to Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball Z continues the adventures of Goku, who, along with his companions, defends the Earth against villains ranging from aliens (Frieza), androids (Cell), and magical creatures (Majin Buu). 

Samurai Champloo

Samurai Champloo is set in an alternate version of Edo-era (1603 to 1868) Japan with an anachronistic, mainly hip hop, setting.

It follows Mugen, an impudent and freedom-loving vagrant swordsman; Jin, a composed and stoic rōnin; and Fuu, a brave girl who asks them to accompany her in her quest across Japan to find the “samurai who smells of sunflowers”.

Cowboy Bebop

The twenty-six episodes (“sessions”) of the series are set in the year 2071 and follow the lives of a bounty hunter crew traveling in their spaceship called the Bebop.

Although it covers a wide range of genres throughout its run, Cowboy Bebop draws most heavily from science fiction, westerns, and noir films and its most recurring thematic focal points include adult existential ennui, loneliness, and the difficulties of trying to escape one's past.

Full Metal Alchemist

Set in a fictional universe in which alchemy is one of the advanced natural techniques revolved around scientific laws of equivalent exchange, the series follows the adventures of two alchemist brothers named Edward and Alphonse Elric, who are searching for the philosopher's stone to restore their bodies after a failed attempt to bring their mother back to life using alchemy.

My Hero Academia

The story follows Izuku Midoriya, a boy born without superpowers (called Quirks) in a world where they have become commonplace, but who still dreams of becoming a hero himself.

Wolf Rain

It focuses on the journey of four lone wolves who cross paths while following the scent of the Lunar Flower and seeking Paradise.

Ghost in the Shell

The manga told the story of the fictional counter-cyberterrorist organization Public Security Section 9, led by protagonist Major Motoko Kusanagi, and is set in mid-21st century Japan.

The Big O

The story takes place forty years after a mysterious occurrence causes the residents of Paradigm City to lose their memories.

Inuyasha

The series begins with Kagome Higurashi, a 15-year-old schoolgirl from modern-day Tokyo who is parallelly transported to the Sengoku period universe of Japan after falling into a well in her family shrine, where she meets the half dog-demon, Inuyasha.

Hunter x Hunter

The story focuses on a young boy named Gon Freecss who discovers that his father, who left him at a young age, is actually a world-renowned Hunter, a licensed professional who specializes in fantastical pursuits such as locating rare or unidentified animal species, treasure hunting, surveying unexplored enclaves, or hunting down lawless individuals.

FATE/ZERO

The ultimate battle royal, in which seven Masters vying for control of the miracle-granting Holy Grail summon seven Servants and fight until only one remain.

One Piece

The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. 

Bleach

The story follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki after he obtains the powers of a Soul Reaper (死神, Shinigami, literally, “Death God”) — a death personification similar to the Grim Reaper — from another Soul Reaper, Rukia Kuchiki.

Berserk

Set in a medieval Europe-inspired dark fantasy world, the story centers on the characters of Guts, a lone mercenary, and Griffith, the leader of a mercenary band called the “Band of the Hawk”.

Naruto

It tells the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja who seeks to gain recognition from his peers and also dreams of becoming the Hokage, the leader of his village.

Attack on Titan

It is set in a fantasy world where humanity lives within territories surrounded by three enormous walls that protect them from gigantic man-eating humanoids referred to as Titans.

Highschool of the Dead

Highschool of the Dead is set in present-day Japan, beginning as the world is struck by a deadly pandemic that turns humans into zombies, euphemistically referred to by the main characters as “Them.”

Baki the Grappler

The story follows teenager Baki Hanma as he trains and tests his fighting skills against a variety of different opponents in deadly, no rules hand-to-hand combat.
