Things Your Set Needs for Your Film Project

No one likes a movie that doesn’t live up to the hype. What makes a good movie?

Aside from stellar actors, great chemistry, and a strong story, a lot of behind-the-scenes work is necessary. Making sure the production runs smoothly means having all your supplies and equipment on hand. Here are the things your set needs for your film project.

Project Plan

Trust us. Everything will go wrong on set if you don’t have a project plan; every film needs a schedule.

Of course, there will be times when that schedule isn’t exact, but shooting in the dark is a bad strategy. Make sure you cover the following points:

  • Script
  • Ideas
  • Storyboards
  • Time and location shoot
  • Gear check
  • Permits

You need to obtain a filming permit from the city you’re operating in and decide the best times of day to shoot. What do you want the cinematography to look like for each scene? Go on from there.

Working Equipment

The equipment is the most obvious necessity, and it needs to function well. Nothing on the set should be damaged or broken. Check all the equipment on the days before the first day of filming.

The sound system, microphones, camera, and lighting should be in the best condition. Delegate specific members of the crew to operate every piece of equipment. Check the equipment at the end of every day to see how well it’s holding up.

Accommodations

The actors may have their own trailers and housing accommodations; what about everyone else? The crew members and extras also need spaces for themselves, especially when it comes to the bathroom.

Don’t skimp out on the good stuff. Provide them with the best, and think about the important considerations when renting luxury trailers.

A covered area for your crew to eat is also necessary. Those long filming days take a lot out of everyone. Partner with a food supplier to get the best deals.

Extra Batteries

This might be the most important thing for your set. It may seem like common sense, but you’d be surprised how many setups forget to bring the extra batteries.

The crew might remember to bring them but forget to charge them the night before. Charge all batteries the night before filming. Not every location will have outlets, and you might need to switch out packets.

Every film project needs these things for their set because they make the magic on the big screen.

“I absolutely love sharing movies with my kids as a way to teach them valuable lessons. It's like this awesome bonding experience where we all snuggle up on the couch with some popcorn, and I get to see their little faces light up with curiosity. Whether it's a classic with timeless morals or a new animated flick with hidden gems of wisdom, it's a fantastic way to impart important life lessons in a fun and engaging way. Plus, the post-movie discussions are priceless – hearing their take on the characters and the story adds a whole new dimension to our family time.” –a Homeschooling parent
