Did you know that movie theaters often have special sensory friendly movie screenings?
I did not!
I have a friend who has autistic sons and she told me all about it. Here are a few of the questions I asked her…
Do you take your autistic kids to the movie theater?
Of my two autistic boys, one is not sensitive but the other is. We typically like to go to early shows with smaller crowds, especially if the kids need to go to the bathroom a lot.
How are “autism-friendly movies” different than a regular movie showing? Sensory friendly movies meaning?
According to my friend:
- sound is lower
- you bring your own food because many in the spectrum can’t eat certain foods, so this is allowed
- it’s not dark
- talking is allowed
- kid-friendly movies
- movies that the whole family can enjoy
- very affordable and not full price
